40,000 Fans Watch Taylor Swift’s Munich Show For Free From Hill Outside Venue

While Taylor Swift performed a sold-out show for 74,000 fans inside Munich’s Olympiastadion on Saturday night, it was the 40,000 fans who gathered on Olympic Hill and the park surrounding the stadium that made headlines. The fans on the hillside were able to partially see and hear the show for free, as the German Swifties who couldn’t get tickets to the show were “Taylor-gating.” Taylor-gating is a trend that started during The Eras Tour, with ticketless fans assembling nearby the music venues to dance and sing along to Swift’s shows with fellow fans.

Some cities discourage fans from loitering without tickets, but apparently toilets and drinks stations were set up in the park on Olympic Hill in advance of Taylor’s show to accomodate the expected crowds. Swift was clearly moved by all of her fans in Munich, both inside and outside the stadium. “We’ve got people in a park outside the stadium, thousands of people listening from out there,” Swift said onstage. “I just feel so incredibly welcome.” (Business Insider)
