Avril Lavigne Appointed To The Order Of Canada

Avril Lavigne has just been appointed to the Order of Canada, a state order in recognition of her contributions to music and society throughout her 22-year career. Canadian Governor General Mary Simon made the official appointment on Friday, June 28, sharing that the order “recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honour to our country abroad.” Simon went on to praise the Canadian singer for her musical achievements as well as her philanthropy and support of social causes: “Generous with her time, she supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.” (NME)
