Women Composers throughout History | Breaking Classical Music’s Glass Ceiling with Musician Nancy Williams

For centuries, female composers were not on equal footing with their male counterparts despite being some of the most visionary figures in music history. Join us Saturday, March 16 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the downtown library (610 Quincy Street, upstairs) and celebrate the women who broke classical music’s glass ceiling and defied social norms. Hear classical selections as musician Nancy Williams discusses the significance of women composers throughout history and how the role of women as composers has changed over time.

Nancy William’s lectures are known for their accessibility in making historical topics relatable to modern audiences of all ages. She is an experienced professional jazz and classical performer, arranger and composer and her publishing company is Carpe Clarinet. Williams has presented at national and international conferences, specializing in classical performance practice and the influence of analysis on performance.
